Man I dunno why I didn't tell you before, it just hit me now...it's Johnny Winter licks not Gary Moore...that's what it is...that and SRV influenced Albert....although I listened to and learned from Albert before I heard Stevie. But when SRV did it, at the time he was doing it, made it more hip for me to do it too, at that time if you get me....an' so this is where this came from, inside.........Listen to Johnny!

I don't find the organ overpowering through the 'phones but on my speakers it's a little rippin'

I was presented the Organ, Drums and Vocals as a mix that I played bass and guitar on.

I'm sure most will agree that when someone is mixing three tracks, in this case Vocal Keys, and drums that often you'll get a false sense of level, so when I added guitar and bass the vocals got a little buried. I'd have to try and get the original tracks as is and re mix totally, but I think I'd just rather go on to the next project....

Yeah the Phrygians, what planet is that again?

Seriously, I don't know alot of chord substitutions, modes and such but would like to learn, alas that I wasn't aware of such subtilties when I was young, just wanted to rock out and be a guitar hero. Thanks for the comments though, always enjoy your jazzy stuff!

Wow, quite the track.....Great rock vocalist..Only one comment re: production, and I'm guilty too, all the time, just a little reverby, maybe a touch drier, you'd get a little more clarity from the intrumental parts....anyway great track as I said......

Yeah it was very constricting as far as what I was allowed to do and how far to go. Now the live shows that was different, I have some preproduction rough demos somewhere too with more extensive solos.....I'll see if I can locate them...Thanks guys!

The core band were just the 4 of us Leo Jones Bass and Vocals, "H" Grant, Guitar and Vocals, "Rasta" Max Claire Percussion and Vocals with me on Guitar, we had 4 different drummers through the life of the band. On this and other recordings we hired studio musicians while we recorded in Miami, a female back up singer and 2 horn players. The road band at one time had, two guitars, bass, drums, a percussionist, two back up vocalists, the bass player from the original 4 who was also a lead singer just fronted, no playing anymore and a three piece horn section! Try making that line up pay. At that time the lead singer Leo(and a bass player don't forget)the drummer, Prince Hopkins and I, also had a three piece Blues Band. The first ever Blues Band in the Turks and Caicos Islands. One club hadn't figured out all the personel and we almost had a gig opening for our selves! The Blues Band "Leo, Thunder and Lightning" got booked to open for "Everyman" We were almost gonna go for it, but thought it might be a little conflict of interest. So we actually arranged an acoustic duo to open...Island life, man it was fun!

No reunion. This stuff was recorded in '94 at a studio in Miami called the Studio Center. After we made demos at a studio called Criteria with a B3 organ and real drums the producers wanted a more commercial sound, hence the drum machine grooves on this rendition. Wish I could get a hold of the original 24 track tapes and trash the drum lines, I'd substitute some Drums on Demand loops or something. Anyway I lived in the Turks and Caicos Islands for years and that's where the band was from. But I left in '98 for Canada, I saw the percussionist and background singers a couple of years ago but I haven't seen the lead singer whom I was best friends with for a time, in over ten years and and have lost touch with him He moved to the Bahamas where he was schooled and was doing the casino and cruise ship thing for I few years, so I understood. Wish I could visit with him he was quite the character.

Big Sugar where just hitting the scene and I'd left Toronto again for the Turks and Caicos Islands. I knew a recording engineer who did thier first demos. I love Big Sugar, his guitar sound is incredible. An interesting poet as well. He is one of my lately guys, been into it for just a couple of years. He does an awesome Bachman Turner Overdrive cover, as well as Islandy stuff, which eventually had a big impact on me too, after living in the Islands for several years. I played in a reggea band for a few years, we did an album. I'll put up a song on the reggae genre maybe again.... Who is Grady?
For SRV by hoodoomule 4 years ago
I think you've misunderstood, this song is complete, pending some vocals. The shuffle I was referring to is another thing I was goofing with, where I tried to do all SRV licks, but that's not really my style anyway. I mean I'm old enough to have been influenced by Albert King and saw him perform live as well. So some of SRV's stuff I already had from listening to Albert (and Jimi). But Stevie had a big impact. His style of blues was awesome he was the real deal. Totally.

This song is actually based on a Cliffton Chenier song called "It's My Soul" as i told daddio once. So ultimately I'd like a fiend of mine in the Toronto area to sing it.

My older sister told me about Stevie, she was driving on the expressway to Toronto to see Van Morrison and heard the news on the car radio, she pulled over, went to a pay phone and called me, she knew I was a big fan. I was back in Canada in my home town at my Mom's place waiting to go to a recording arts school to start in September (after spending the previous 4 years in the Turks and caicos Islands)
Honky Tonk (Slidin') by hoodoomule 4 years ago
Well my first attempt at playing slide was listening to Johnny Winter. But Duane Allman was there for me to listen to as well, I mean I listened to the 'live at the fillmore' when it came out in '72 (I think) but I'm no where near those guys, I've seen the latest Allman guitar players live too, Warren Haynes is a monster. I saw Derrick Trucks open a show for Robben Ford a couple of years ago in Seattle...Slide another art, like blowing harp, ya have to practice every day and get the tecnique and intonation down
